＜概要/Course Content Summary＞

Overview　
　
This course provides fundamental knowledge on microeconomics with policy applications and implications considered. Some rudimentary mathematics (basic mathematical graphs/diagrams) will be used. Students are required to understand theories by drawing relevant graphs/diagrams.　
　
Basically, lectures on essential notions and theories are provided, and some practical sessions follow them. Even in the lectures, students need to answer the questions raised by the tutor. In practical sessions, students sometimes need to give answers and ideas to questions in front of other students.　
　
The contents in authentic microeconomics may be a bit technical for some students majoring in arts subjects. However, this is a basic course, and thus I believe that they can sufficiently understand the theories. In fact, some students in the departments of arts and literature successfully completed this course in the past. In general, economics is an established theory and provides a good training for your logical thinking.　
　
In addition, a few topics on behavioral economics are provided. On the topics, group discussions are conducted.　
　
Style of the Course　
　
This course consists of lectures, practical sessions, and group discussions. Proactive participation is crucial, and thus you basically need to attend all the classes in this course.　
　
In this respect, 4th year domestic students need to carefully consider the registration. If you need to focus on job hunting, it will be better not to take this course. The number of domestic students is limited in this course. After the initial registration, new students will not be added even if some students cancel the registration. Actually, some students never attended a class and canceled the registration, but this deprived some other potential students of their opportunities.（この点，4年生の国内学生（同志社生）は履修を慎重に検討する必要があります。就職活動に専念したいのであれば，このコースは受講しない方がよいでしょう。このコースでは，国内学生の定員を設けています。初回登録後，登録の取り消しがあっても，他の学生の新規登録はできません。実際，一度も授業に出席せず，そのまま履修登録をキャンセルした受講生が数名いましたが，これは他の学生の受講機会を奪ったことになります。）　
　
As usual, many diverse overseas students will register for this course. Students can enjoy group works in the international context and atmosphere.　

＜到達目標/Goals,Aims＞

You can:　
(1) Understand fundamental theories on microeconomics (e.g. marginal decision rule, efficiency, opportunity cost, price mechanism, elasticity, comparative advantage, and so on).　
(2) Apply normative theories to policy analyses in the practical context.　
(3) Explain and discuss real economic phenomena and policies based on microeconomic theories.
