<概要/Course Content Summary>
Education policies have a significant impact on the delivery of public education, and they attract considerable public attention, reflecting the fundamental importance of "education" to society and individuals.It is not uncommon to hear criticism from the public that policies have not worked well or have been unable to prevent problems from occurring. This criticism naturally leads to the question, "Why are desirable policies not being realized?" This course is essential for understanding the policymaking process, which is key to answering this question. This course will provide you with a solid understanding of how education policy is made in Japan.In the first half, you will gain knowledge about policymaking in general and perspectives for analyzing it.In the second half, you will learn how education policy is made in Japan by reading related articles.Concurrently, you will choose a particular policy and analyze its policymaking process based on the knowledge you have gained. At the midpoint and end of the course, students will give short and final presentations in English, respectively. This course is conducted in English, although fluency is not a prerequisite. Developing your English skills is also one of the course's objectives. Students are encouraged to participate actively in class discussions, and they are free to make mistakes. Use this course as a stepping stone towards further learning.
