<概要/Course Content Summary>
This course will systematically study and debate some of the key contents of the important and fully updated IR textbook: The Globalization of World Politics - An Introduction to International Relations (8th Edition), Edited by John Baylis, Steve Smith and Patricia Owens, Oxford University Press, 2020). No prior knowledge of International Relations is necessarily required nor expected. The course will include the opportunity to access an unrivaled coverage of history, theory, structures, processes, and international issues, prior to, during and following WWII, up to the present day, by over 30 leading international scholars. State of the Art online resources are included to support both IR lecturers and their students. All classes will be conducted online via MS Teams - divided into lectures/readings/summaries and discussion, in the first 45 minutes, and small group mini-presentations and discussion of research journal work in progress, in the last 45 minutes. Messages and attachments for study procedures and further information will be sent in due course, via DUET, to all students.

Students will deepen and develop their critical reading, writing, thinking, discussion, presentation, and research skills. By the end of the semester, their knowledge and understanding of the above will have been increased and enhanced, as will their ability to comprehend and make informed judgements about some of the key concepts and problems of International Relations in the Post War Era.

This schedule may be subject to additions, changes and/or revisions, at the discretion of the Instructor. Deadlines for all submissions of coursework essays/reports will be given in class. "In-class evaluation" and "Continuous Assessment" are key components, in addition to essay submissions. Each week, at least 1-2 hours should be devoted to self study in the on-going research journals, and at least 3-4 hours should be devoted to reading and note-taking from the core textbook and any related sources.

"On-going" Research Journals and Mini- Presentations

Small groups will be convened on a weekly basis to present and discuss self-researched materials pertaining to current international relations and affairs, and to link these with the history and theory presented in the core textbook and supplementary materials. (Research Journals will NOT be submitted - due to the online nature of the classes. Assessment will be based on the group presentations and discussions.)

Coursework Essays

Deadlines for short, coursework essays to be submitted online as email attachments, will be announced in class.(Essays will be returned with comments.) Self-study notebooks - either handwritten or typed - are expected to be worked in by students, on their own, in which they must make notes from their textbook and associated readings, class lectures/discussions and for essay outlines, glossaries etc. (These will NOT be submitted - due to the online nature of the classes.)

All of the above evaluation criteria must be done honestly and diligently by each student, in order to secure a decent grade at the end of the semester. Please note carefully that any form of plagiarism in submitted written work will NOT be tolerated at all. (Guidelines for APA citation and references, and the avoidance of plagiarism, will be given in due course.
