<概要/Course Content Summary>
This is an introductory survey course that explores the rich diversity of human culture by examining the developments of major civilisations in continental Asia in the context of world history. This course focuses on the cultural, political, social, religious, ideological and technological aspects and legacies of civilisations in areas such as East Asia, South Asia, Central Asia, and Southeast Asia. NOTICE: Topics on Japan are excluded from this course. No essays can be written on things Japanese.
<到達目標/Goals,Aims>
This course aims to give students a basic understanding of Asian civiiizations, looking at their history, cultures, geography, religions, and languages used from the ancient to the present time. While the course is taught in the form of a straight lecture, students are also encouraged to participate in the class activities through readings, writings, discussions in every class time, whereby students will acquire academic research skills. Students could post their comments and remarks online, the way in which they could actively and visibly participate in the class. Ultimately, students are expected to not just accumulate pieces of information of a number of historical events human beings experienced in the past, but also critically and intellectually analyse and think of what we learn from the past, and use the knowledge and insight in the future.

Classes will be held interactively online using Teams and Zoom. Announcements, distribution of materials and submission of assignments are also scheduled to be done via Teams. Students must turn on the camera function of the device when attending class. More than two-thirds of attendance is required for a Pass grade.
