<概要/Course Content Summary>

In this course we will discuss current trends on several fields of biomedical research, focusing on how biotechnology impacts our daily life and how to brace coming changes in the near future. We will learn about and debate topics that range from the underlying biology of common diseases such as cancer, to bioethics. This course is designed to improve our soft skills such as interpersonal and communication skills, cultural intelligence, teamwork and leadership. Therefore classes, assignments and evaluation criteria will strongly consider those. We will also use games to learn the hardcore content of lectures, specially those that are focused on molecular biology and other science related topics.

<到達目標/Goals,Aims>

The aim of this course is to present an overview of the current trends and basic knowledge of biomedical sciences to understand and palliate common human diseases. This course will emphasize on improving understanding of disease to provide students with tools to develop innovative solutions. Student evaluation will consist of a final report. In this report, students will design a project to build a fictitious biotechnology product to solve a current health problem in humans, and to develop a product that could be used to solve that health issue.
