<概要/Course Content Summary> This course will focus on social issues which are facing contemporary Japan,and is a continuation of Critical Social Issues 1. The topics in this class are a little more challenging and include war responsibility and memory, nuclear energy and waste, issues involving 3/11,media, the imperial family, yakuza, and education. A further set of topics will be generated from student interests with suggestions given in class. <到達目標/Goals,Aims> This course requires students to think about current issues affecting Japanese society. An emphasis is on generating critical discussion of the issues that are pertinent to understanding the challenges that Japan faces as a nation in a global world. <授業計画/Schedule>
Depending on the number of students in the class, some of the topics in the first part might be omitted. Students will be required to make a group presentation and an individual presentation. <成績評価基準/Evaluation Criteria>
