<概要/Course Content Summary> This is an introductory-level course that considers Japanese culture and society using a variety of disciplines from the humanities. We will pay close attention to the global forces and structures underpinning the visible transformations in modern Japanese society, and identify as much as possible the connections between social-cultural change (as seen in areas such as dining, housing, and entertainment) and political-economic change (as seen in areas such as labor, finance, and trade). <到達目標/Goals,Aims> Students will gain a fuller understanding of Japanese culture and society, its history, and the connections between cultural, economic, social, and political change. The course is also intended to provide students with a sense of how Japanese culture and society is discussed and studied in English at academic institutions outside of Japan. <授業計画/Schedule>
