＜概要/Course Content Summary＞
This is an introductory course on human rights policies and international human rights law. No previous specialized knowledge of law or policy is required to take the course. The course is divided into two parts. The first part will cover general knowledge about the concepts and theories of human rights law as well as relevant international treaties. The second part will be an exploration of human rights through film.

Students will acquire fundamental knowledge about human rights concepts, policies and laws. After completing this course, students will gain insight into international/regional institutions, mechanisms and procedures related to human rights. In particular, students will develop a deeper understanding of the human, legal and political issues around modern day human rights problems.

Course Requirements and Assignments
Students are expected to actively participate in class discussions, thus regular attendance, and completion of assigned background readings and watching films/videos prior to class is important. You will be required to keep a portfolio of discussion questions, make several short presentations, as well as lead discussions that will be assigned to you during the course, and complete one in-class exam.
