<概要/Course Content Summary> The Japanese archipelago extends 3000 km from north to south and includes diverse natural environments from sub-boreal to sub-tropical vegetation. Japan also has a long history of human activity, which as affected the natural landscape. In this course, we will learn about the various natural environments of Japan and exchange opinions about human impacts on the global environment and efforts to conserve/restore nature. The knowledge and experience gained in this course will help you become a more environmentally-responsible global citizen. <到達目標/Goals,Aims> Every environmental issue has two sides with opposing opinions. The objective of this class is to learn, think critically, and share opinions with others regarding the natural environment and environmental issues. The course will focus on Japan, but you will be required to think globally, as well as locally, about various environmental issues. <授業計画/Schedule>
The order may change depending on the calendar. Each lecture will be made available via e-Class. View the lecture and submite assignments by the due date via e-Class. Textbook is background reading for the class. You are required to finish reading it by the end of the year (Dec 31) and submit your report via e-Class. <成績評価基準/Evaluation Criteria>
You will be evaluated on participation in the interactive lectures and discussion sessions. Students will evaluate each other on their presentations.
