<概要/Course Content Summary>

This course provides an introduction to the basic concepts, theories, and analytical tools used in microeconomics. Focus is placed on theories explaining the behaviour of individual consumers and individual firms, and the interaction of consumers and firms in the market. We also examine both the market outcomes that arise under perfect competition, and the market failures that occur with imperfect competition and economic externalities.

<到達目標/Goals,Aims>

The objective of this course is to help students develop a solid understanding of the basic building blocks of microeconomic theory, in particular, supply and demand analysis, utility maximization, and profit maximization. Microeconomics forms the base upon which a major portion of economic theory is built. Thus, a good understanding of microeconomic theory becomes a strong asset to students in more advanced business and economics courses.
