<概要/Course Content Summary>

Studying international politics is largely concerned with studying lenses through which we see the world. In this class, we will examine how international political issues are created,intertwined and blown out and analyze the forces and structures which determine the shape of contemporary world. We will examine these in the following 3 periods: (1) during the cold war period, (2) the post-cold war period and (3) the post-cold war contemporary period. We see how a previous period evolved into a new period, and how major players responded to new political environments, with a particular emphasis on Japan's perspective. In the course, students are requested to present their views on the topic in point via Emails or, if possible, other means. Ongoing hot issues, if not mentioned in this syllabus, may be picked up and analysed as well.
The instructor for this course worked as a diplomat for 40 years, and part of the lectures and discussions will be based on this experience.

<到達目標/Goals,Aims>

Students will be encouraged to get familiarized with international politics, acquire its basic knowledge and vocabulary, and have their own views on international political issues. It is also expected that they will become more comfortable and confident in expressing their views and taking leadership in the class.
