＜概要/Course Content Summary＞

In this class, students will develop translation skills, primarily for translating from Japanese into English, although we will also do some translations from English into Japanese. We will learn about how to create accurate and readable translations. We will examine problems for translating between Japanese and English. There will be weekly homework assignments and students will give one presentation.

＜到達目標/Goals,Aims＞

Students will develop skills in creating translations that are 1) accurate, 2) understandable to the target audience, and 3) readable (written in clear and natural sounding language).Students will also develop skills in doing research for transations. For example, students will practice doing research on topics that they are not familiar with, and using web resources to aid with translations.
