<概要/Course Content Summary>

This course focuses on skills relevant to dialogue between people of different languages, identities, and bases of knowledge. Students will receive a basic introduction into theories of social interaction that will be useful in achieving mutual understanding through communication and will put those theories into use through regular interaction within the class. Useful language will also be presented to aid students in practicing their communication skills. Successful participation in this course requires active engagement in one-to-one interactions, small group discussions, and presentations. While accuracy of language is one element that this course will evaluate, expression of ideas and communicative competence will be given greater focus in this course as it focuses on oral communication skills in both formal and informal settings.

<到達目標/Goals,Aims>

Students will be able to practice and develop their oral communication skills with the teacher and their peers throughout this course. They will also practice critical thinking necessary to establish mutual understanding through social interaction. Students who actively participate in this course will not only be able to express their own ideas in English, but also to critically analyze the ideas and perspectives of their peers in social interaction, allowing for mutual understanding to develop.
