<概要/Course Content Summary>

This course will focus on communication skills that will be useful in business settings where English is used. Topics in this course include conflict resolution, problem solving, and consensus building, all of which require an understanding and practice of discussion skills and critical thinking. Group and individual presentation skills are also a requirement for successful participation in projects such as product demonstrations and research reporting.

<到達目標/Goals,Aims>

Students who actively participate in this course will be able to refine their discussion and presentation skills, as well as develop their skills for interpersonal interaction in business settings. Students will become exposed to useful language and analytical frameworks for understanding social communication with people of different languages, identities, and bases of knowledge.

Assignments will typically consist of written reflections on readings or online resources assigned during class.

<成績評価基準/Evaluation Criteria>

Attendance and participation  20%  Regular attendance and active participation during class sessions are required 
Written reflections  10%  Students will keep a journal for written reflections of assigned homework 
Small group discussions  15%  Students will be evaluated by their performance during small group discussions 
Oral projects  25%  Students will be evaluated by their preparation of materials and performance during presentations/discussions 
Final presentation  30%  Students will be evaluated by individual and group preparation and performance during final presentation 

In principle, attendance and active participation is required at every class session. All assignments must be completed on-time, or ahead of time in the event of an absence from class. Evidence of effort and motivation will positively affect the final grade.
