EDWARD OGLE HEARN

＜概要/Course Content Summary＞

Students further develop their speaking ability which they acquired during their Study Abroad year. They will develop their ability to use English in specific social situations. More concretely，they will be trained to be assertive about their opinions about particular issues while comprehending others’ opinions. They will be also trained to develop their logical，persuasive communicative skill for problem solution. The class will be conducted in English.

＜到達目標/Goals,Aims＞

This course is a discussion-based class designed to help students discuss, analyze, and debate academic topics. This course will focus on the issue of global development. We will examine our ideas of the good life and society as well as approaches to economic development and the role of international aid in building a just global society. Students will build on the language skills they have developed and expand their ability to discuss advanced academic topics. Students will be introduced to major concepts from economics and comparative politics. The class will also help students to develop perspective taking and analytical skills.

＜成績評価基準/Evaluation Criteria＞

平常点(出席，クラス参加，グループ作業の成果等)	50%	Regular attendance and participation is　 vital and will be graded accordingly. I expect that you will come to class having read the material and participate in the discussion by　 asking and answering questions, engaging fellow classmates and myself, and thinking about the course material.
小レポート	30%	There will be 2 in-class writing assignments
クラスで発表など	20%	You will be required to make a presentation on a topic of your choosing. Further Information about the assignment will be provided.
