<概要/Course Content Summary>

As researchers, we continually learn from our mistakes and our successes in equal fashion. This course aims to accelerate that learning process or otherwise provide advance warning to enrolees of all that lies ahead while simultaneously emphasising the intellectual satisfaction to be had along the way. We shall meet once a week, after the fashion of the relationship that students have with their supervisors, and divide our time between talking about the reading assignment for that week and the research assignment or general progress thereof.

<到達目標/Goals,Aims>

• To stimulate the exploration of worthwhile research topics.
• To acquaint students with / remind them of the most rudimentary reading strategies we all need in order to appreciate literary writing at its finest. (Even university professors need a reminder now and then, and so do you).
• To acquaint students with / remind them of the intellectual history associated with American Studies. (As above).
• To confront the challenges associated with undertaking lengthy research projects, measure one’s abilities in respect to them, and not feel intimidated at the end of it.
