＜概要/Course Content Summary＞
This course serves as an introduction to Asian American Studies. The students will learn the general history of Asian migration to the the United States, and also familiarize themselves in some theoretical themes related to Asian American experiences， such as diaspora, exclusion， citizenship， labor， activism， and images of Asian Americans， as well as specific issues， such as Japanese American internment， the myth of “model minority，” and interracial relationships particularly among minorities. Towards the end of the course， the class will think about contemporary social and political issues in Asian America, as well as various research methodologies in Asian American Studies.

1. Students will acquire basic knowledge about historical experiences and cultures of Asians in the United States in the context of multicultural American history.
2. Students will develop critical reading， summarizing， and effective writing skills required in the academic discipline of American Studies.
3. Students will analyze how race and other socially-constructed categories impact communities as well as how these categories are challenged through social and cultural activism.
