<概要/Course Content Summary>

An independent researcher has to have one’s own working field in which the researcher should prove the originality and competence. An engineer in a R&D division of a company has to bear a product that sustains the company’s competitiveness in the next generation. Thus, scientists and engineers have to find good R&D themes that they can work in, and manage themselves for their R&D themes to come into the conditions that had been planned in advance. Successful management of R&D planning is the key for scientists and engineers to be most productive. Guidelines to set up a time-effective R&D planning for scientists and engineers are taught in this course.

<到達目標/Goals,Aims>

The course aims to cultivate students' potentials in the following aspects: 
Setting up a proper goal and having the skill to reach the goal in a finite duration of time. 
Organizing a concrete schedule for R&D needed to strengthen the realization of a project proposal.

<成績評価基準/Evaluation Criteria>

Class attitude(Attendance, Participation in discussion, result of group work ect.)  25%  Class attendance is required 
Midterm report  25%  Report on a case study of research planning 
Final term report  25%  Report on a case study for a development of a novel product or technology 
Homework assignments  25%  Write up a small report during class time 

Ability to summarize ideas onto a written report in a short time is required.
