<概要/Course Content Summary> This course provides an introductory treatment of the mechanical behavior of materials with a balanced approach on mechanics of materials, strength of material, mechanics of structure and fracture mechanics. The study in the class often refers to various methods of calculating the relationship between applied load and deformation, stresses, strains in structural members, such as plates, beams, columns and shafts. To extend the contents of the class advanced theory for general structures, such as truss and Rahmen which are pin-linked and rigid-frame structure, respectively, are considered. General design method employed to predict the bending moment in cross section of continuous beam and reaction force for supporting is also treated considering Clapeyron's theorem of three moments. Allowable force and stresses of notched members for design are also discussed dealing with the fracture mechanics taking into account stress intensity factor and critical energy release rate which are know as advanced properties of materials <到達目標/Goals,Aims> To show activities in the class, students are requested to demonstrate the results of practices shown in almost every time on their reports to be submitted in next class time. The students are also requested to obtain comprehensive knowledge on the content of the class. Final examination will be provided at the final class of the term. The students are expected to show in the examination that they are able to calculate for mechanical designs of truss, Rahmen, continuous beam and notched members subjected to applied load, respectively. <授業計画/Schedule>
The schedule and contents of the course may be changed according to the background and academic performance of students. <成績評価基準/Evaluation Criteria>
