<概要/Course Content Summary>

In the course, the student will develop in-depth understanding of knowledge and innovation management. Through the lectures, we will focus on basic concepts, theory, research questions and findings from recent empirical research. Knowledge and innovation have to be at the core of any attempt to improve enterprises' performance and the quintessential function of any organization. We start with basic concepts and will proceed with issues related to knowledge and innovation.

Our aim is to enhance the ability of students to develop their own critical thinking. The topics provideds us with an opportunity to present a critical assessment of innovation studies research finings on these issues. It aims for students to identify, understand and select which types of knowledge and which types of knowledge creation behaviors and how they will have an impact on the desired competitive advantage.

This introductory session provide an overview of the structure of the course and elaborate on the assignments. Subsequently, some basic concepts on knowledge and innovation studies are introduced.

This lecture presents a broader theoretical perspectives. It first review the basic concepts of innovation studies, building on this to explore what kind of theories exist.

This session covers the dynamic interaction between tacit and explicit knowledge in organizations. The new dynamism of the knowledge-creating company is reviewed.

Learning organizations and innovations. To what extent determines the relationship between individuals and among groups the effectiveness and efficiency of knowledge transfer, knowledge creation and knowledge management in and organizations ?

<成績評価基準/Evaluation Criteria>

Class participation:  30%  Contribution to the class discussion 
Presentations and Assignments:  40%  Quality and originality 
Final paper and presentation  30%  Quality and originality 

Students' attitude to the class will be evaluated. Original idea in discussion and presentation will be required.
