＜概要/Course Content Summary＞

This course will introduce participants to the characteristics and key approaches in qualitative research. The content ranges from a fundamental understanding of the theory to hands-on application in a field exercise. Topics include paradigmatic, philosophical, and theoretical orientations designing qualitative studies, observations, qualitative interviewing and the reporting of such data. Several handouts will be provided to help with exercises. Assignments in this course can be worked on individually or in pair-/teamwork (depending on class size) and contain short weekly assignments and a final project. Students attending this course should have an idea on what area their thesis topic is in already.

Students will develop a knowledge of the basics of qualitative research, its range of methodologies, and the skill to collect and analyze qualitative data.
