<概要/Course Content Summary>
This course takes the approach of the fashion studies characterized by a multi-disciplinary angle that covers all the various perspectives typical of a social phenomenon such as fashion. Analyzing fashion from different points of view shall allow students to choose a possible future specialization in fashion and make the subject more interesting and various. Starting from the development of modern fashion from its European origins to the current global circulation, the three main expression of fashion will be covered through emblematic stories in haute couture, prêt-a-porter and fast fashion. After this general excursus, the presentation of the “neo-customer” and the impact of sustainability and circular economy in Fashion and review of the diffusion theory of "trickle down", the main functions of a fashion company will be presented, from design to supply chain management, from finance to marketing and communication including also store development and merchandising and, through role playing and group analysis, the basic of growth strategies for fashion companies will be presented.

Students will gain an understanding of the economics and marketing of fashion and the dynamics that affect firms operating in the industry today. Students will be encouraged to conduct independent researches and present their findings in class on a regular basis. By adopting interactive approach, this course will allow students to be actively engaged as if they were able to set strategies for a fashion company in today’s' competitive environment facing mutating customers' behaviors through guided brainstorming, discussions and case studies with the aim of synthesizing their understanding of fashion business. Final workshop will be a business plan from each different perspective of the various operational functions in a fashion company.
