<概要/Course Content Summary>

This course introduces you to Cultural and Creative Industries in Japan, with special focus on Kyoto. It contains a series of guest speakers who have been researching on topics in this area for years (or sometimes decades) and field trips. The 2020 course will contain similar items as the 2019 course if available, which were: guest speeches on Kyoto Culture & Kyoto Companies ,Japanese youth culture and its commercialization since the 1950s, Doing Business in Kyoto: How to successfully run a café and food business in a traditional Japanese city (presented by a business owner), a field trip to UNWTO Cultural Tourism Conference, and a visit to a cultural tourism site for an observation exercise. Students will have to complete short weekly assignments, field trip reports, participate in class and create a final report (10 pages)/presentation. This can either be on a cultural/creative topic of choice or the student's thesis topic if it is suitable to this class.

<到達目標/Goals,Aims>

Upon completing the course students will have deeper understanding of the creative and cultural industry in Japan, and how culture influenced industry practices throughout history.
