<概要/Course Content Summary>
“Exceptional leaders distinguish themselves because of superior self-leadership.” – Daniel Goleman. Global society calls for responsible leaders. However, in order to lead others, we first need to lead ourselves. This course is tailored to help students learn the foundations of leadership based on self-assessment, awareness, and self-environment discovery and management. This course is meant to prepare students to be global business leaders, responsible for sustainable growth for the global economy and well-being of mankind. While the course schedule is classically lecture based, students practice numerous exercises to deepen self-awareness through the training of brain, heart and mind. The teaching method of mindfulness based emotional intelligence development, initially developed by Google for their employees, is employed. The methods include meditation, journal writing and other practices. These secular methods are proven to be effective based on scientific research. In addition, students will individually complete various personality tests to create an understanding of themselves. The type, cost and schedule of these tests will be communicated to the students. The outcome of these tests will be unpacked during the course. The students are expected to participate a systematic process of daily exercises and self-reflections. Further, the course may include experiential events such as Ikebana (Japanese art of flower arrangement) or Chado (Japanese Tea Ceremony or “the way of tea”). This course is an immersive experience and requires the full presence for students to cultivate themselves internally to be a superior leader.

Students are expected to gain knowledge and skills on: 1-Emotional intelligence, mindfulness, leadership and the science supporting the aforementioned. 2-Their own traits, personalities, strengths and weaknesses, etc. to lead effectively 3-Acquiring abilities to continue development above skills 4-Mindset and attitude towards difficulties they face, based on their individual traits
