＜概要/Course Content Summary＞
This course focuses on current social work issues， especially those in multicultural societies.
We will learn about current social work practices in multicultural societies and consider issues that exist in Japan. We will learn about the concept of cultural competence in social work and how to develop cultural competency in practice and social work education.
We will also cover topics in international issues in social work. Interest in the area of international social work and multicultural social work is expected. This course is designed for students who want to increase their skills in English for further study in the field of social work or for international practice in social work.
多文化社会におけるソーシャルワーク
多様な社会ではソーシャルワーカーのcultural competence（文化的理解能力）は必要不可欠な要素である。西欧の文化で生まれ，育まれたソーシャルワーク理論や実践方法は，文化背景が異なる人々には効果的なのかどうかが問われている。ソーシャルワークの実践において，クライエントの理解から始まるのが原則だが，その個人の諸事情や問題を理解すると共にクライエントの文化背景を理解することが重要である。この授業では主に米国のソーシャルワーク教育と実践を参考に，multi-cultural social work（多文化ソーシャルワーク）を取り上げ，理解を深めていく。また，日本社会も多文化が進む中，日本の社会福祉の領域も多文化理解，cultural competencyが欠かせない時代に直面している。日本の現状や課題の考察もしていきたい。
このクラスは英書の講読はもちろん，受講生のスキルに合わせて英語でのディスカッションを行います。大学院進学，国際的な舞台での実践に臨む学生，また，国際社会福祉や多文化社会に興味ある学生の受講を歓迎する。
