<概要/Course Content Summary> This course is a continuation of Advanced Lectures in Foresight and Futures Studies 1. It will provide students a deeper understanding of the structure of cultural assimilation, with the aim of analyzing critically the fine points of intercultural interaction. First, the lectures will explore how the culture of consumption has been transformed from a corporate to a transnational enterprise. Second, we will consider how culture has become organized more globally, with the result that cross-cultural understanding has emerged as a key corporate strategy. Third, we will weigh the conditions under which a given culture gains acceptance in a separate cultural sphere, and the extent to which people can assimilate successfully in alternate environments. Employing a historical perspective, we will compare and contrast Japan with the cultures of Europe and America. To utilize knowledge gained from the lectures, we will conduct experiments to envision new domains of scholarship based on Masao Miyoshi’s concept “Beyond Theory,” as well as using the Masao Miyoshi Bunko (Collection) in the library of Faculty of Culture and Information Science. <到達目標/Goals,Aims> To understand the global system and to analyze modern cultural phenomena from the viewpoint of comparative cultural studies, while taking into account historical-geographical conditions and to conduct basic training for envisioning new domains of scholarship. <授業計画/Schedule>
