<概要/Course Content Summary>
This course is an introductory course in the study of children and young people’s political participation. Children and young people have long been understood as less influential future citizens. This perspective has recently been counteracted by the fact that increasingly more children and young people participate in political processes and exert their influence to change society, as best exemplified by the recent School Strike for Climate Change movement, the growing number of youth parliament, and so forth. Against this backdrop, in this class, students will read Roger Hart’s one of the most influential books in the field of children and young people’s participation in politics and community to understand (1) why we should take children and young people into account more seriously, (2) how they act politically, (3) how adult citizens can collaborate with children and young people to change society. Students will also learn basic academic skills such as presentation skills and book review skills. Participation of non-native English speakers is highly welcome.

<参考文献/Reference Book>
Some chapters of the book will be provided in each week. Non-native English speakers (particularly Japanese students) can also read the translated version of the book for better preparation. If you purchase the English ver, I strongly recommend that you get PAPERBACK version (rather than Hardcover version) as the latter is extremely expensive.
