<概要/Course Content Summary>

The objective of this course is to get a better understanding of basic concepts and applications of ecological economics. Students are expected to understand the reasons why sustainability has not been achieved at local, national and global levels. Also students are expected to study necessity steps which can lead us toward sustainable future. This course is designed to improve critical reading and thinking skills. We will choose and read a textbook written in English. All the students are expected to read a designated part each week. Each week one student will be chosen and he/she will present a draft Japanese translation and other students will have to comment on it. Students are expected to spend at least several hours each week before coming to the class.

By the end of the course,students will be able to explain the root causes of unsustainable economic practices and to come up with possible ways of solving the problems.

The course schedule is subject to changes. For example, if the COVID-19 infection becomes serious, this course will be conducted using Zoom.

<成績評価基準/Evaluation Criteria>

Class attendance, attitude,participation and contribution to discussion,presentation as well as preparing draft translations.  80%  Attendance rate of 90% as well as active participation in the discussion are necessary. Preparation of draft translation before coming to class is also a must. 
Final Report  20%  The contents of the final report will be overall review of all the textbooks which we read throughout this course.
