<概要/Course Content Summary>

This seminar aims to promote students’ better understanding on political and economic dynamics surrounding the evolution of regional integration, cooperation and confrontation through the application of relevant theoretical approaches to various empirical cases. There are three major focuses in this seminar: 1) identifying theoretical relevance to the upsurge of the interest in the evolution of Asian regionalism, 2) clarifying the role of major countries in the development of Asian regional integration, and 3) specifying major factors promoting wider regional cooperation and conflicts in Asia and the Pacific such as trade/investment integration and institution-building.

1) To acquire broad knowledge on essential materials concerning Asia Pacific political economy, especially regionalism.  
2) To master a skill of applying relevant theoretical frameworks to a case study.

<成績評価基準/Evaluation Criteria>

Class participation/discussion  50%  As this is a seminar-type class, your regular attendance and vigorous participation in both class discussions are required. 
Research Essay (4500-5000 words)  50%  Appropriate questions, strong and logical arguments and relevant information/evidences.
