In this course students will examine and discuss some topical issues concerning American law, the American legal systems and American culture as discussed in newspaper and magazine articles and other sources. The exact topics to be studied will be selected based on the students' interests.

The aim of this course is to provide an introduction to current news issues concerning American law, legal systems and culture while giving students a good opportunity to practice and improve their English language skills.

Students will be graded based on an examination, including essays (65%); a presentation (10%); and class participation, preparation, effort and attitude (25%)

There is no textbook for this class. Various materials written in English will be distributed in class. The materials will be provided to the students in advance so they can prepare for each class. Students will be expected to obtain some newspaper and/or magazine articles or other materials for their presentations.
