<概要/Course Content Summary>

This term everyone must write a BA thesis of at least 3,000 words and be ready to carry out multiple revisions as requested by the teacher. During this time, we will study the techniques and methods involved in producing a high quality thesis in English. Students must also learn the skills of writing an academic abstract of 500 words and preparing a bibliography in APA style. Individual supervision of each thesis will be available to every student after they have engaged in their own analysis of original data and based their research on theoretical frameworks to support their arguments. They need accurate English writing skills in order to pass.

Upon completion of this seminar,students should 
- explain the relevant theories postulated with reference to their thesis topic 
- be able to deliver information and linguistic data from their thesis - be able to produce a high-quality ORIGINAL academic essay in English of at least 3,000 words using appropriate technical terms,referring to relevant theories and quoting from suitable sources without any PLAGIARISM 
- be able to take part actively in academic discussion of linguistic issues concerning their thesis 
- have conducted one totally original piece of fieldwork for their thesis

Depending on class size and other factors, there may be changes made to the timing of the presentations or the preparation of the discussion questions for homework. Students will be informed beforehand of such cases. Students will be able to get individual supervision of their research (guidance about reference materials, help with textual analysis) as well as having their entire BA thesis edited at least three times.

<成績評価基準/Evaluation Criteria>

平常点  50%  BA THESIS revision and refinement 
授業内提出物  50%   

Students who plagiarize will be penalized.

<テキスト/Textbook>

This term there will be handouts for students advising them how to produce a good BA thesis.

None in particular 

 

<備考/Remarks>

Students must work hard to improve their thesis on both the linguistic and theoretical level. This will involve revising it several times and handing in draught versions to the teacher on time. Students who have bad time management skills will be penalized.
