<概要/Course Content Summary>

1) This course is designed for students whose TOEFL-ITP scores fall within,or near,the following range: 520 and above. 
 
2) Our emphasis in this course will engage all skills in English, with particular emphasis on skills in Listening and Speaking. 
 
In this class we will introduce,evaluate,and discuss important social problems facing our global society today,using materials introduced by the instructor. Students will be asked to consider and listen to different opinions and make cross-cultural comparisons on a different topic in each class. After discussing these topics,students will research a sub-topic of their interests. Using their research material,a summary report will be written and used to practice their speech skills while leading an informal presentation and discussion with their study group members. 

<到達目標/Goals,Aims>

The student's goal will be to acquire the necessary vocabulary,listening,and speaking skills for comparing and discussing social problems in society today. While sharpening their skills of debate with fellow students and researching their chosen subtopic issues,the students will be able to broaden their outlook and solidify their opinions on the social issues in today’s society.

Due to the changing Covid-19 circumstances, for health and safety reasons the instructor has switched these classes to realtime online- Zoom classes from the first class, September 25th. <成績評価基準/Evaluation Criteria>

平常点  50%  Class attendance and participation in discussions and class activities in English will be evaluated. 
小レポート  50%  Students will choose and research a sub-topic of the main issues discussed in class. Outlines written each week for homework on the subtopics will be discussed with a partner and evaluated by the teacher.
