<概要/Course Content Summary>

1) This course is designed for students wishing to improve their English communication ability. 
 
2) Our emphasis in this course will be on critical thinking and communication / discussion(though to some degree the course will necessarily engage all skills in English). 
 
3) The purpose of this course is to improve students' critical thinking skills, and develop students' ability to discuss various contempory topics in English.

2. To provide a deeper understanding of the cross-cultural issues.

<成績評価基準/Evaluation Criteria>

Attendance  20%  Five absences may result in failure of the course. 
Participation in class activities   30%  Students are encorrages to participate in class activities. 
Writing assignments   20%  Students will research and write about pertinent socio-cultural issues in Japan,the Asian region and globally. 
Quizzes  20%  A small quiz will take place in the final weeks of the semester as a way to assess students understanding of 
what was covered in the semester. 
Presentation  10%  Students will presnt on the pertinent issues which they reserch
