<概要/Course Content Summary>
1) This course is designed for students whose TOEFL-ITP scores fall within,or near,the following range:430-470. 2) Our emphasis in this course will engage all skills in English, with particular emphasis on skills in Listening and Speaking. In this class,issues in today’s media using materials introduced by the instructor will be discussed and evaluated with study group members. Students will be asked to listen and consider a wide variety of topics that will be presented by conversations on CD and reading materials. At first students will consider the topic and then listen to the conversation on the main issue. They will then check the vocabulary and their understanding by reading the scripts of the conversation with a partner. After discussing the main issues, the student should form an opinion and decide on a possible solution. Finally, as a homework assignment students will personalize the main theme discussed in each class with a similar subtopic. Using the subtopic theme they will write an outline based on their ideas, personal experiences, and opinions. Using the outline, they will then present their ideas, experiences and opinions to their study group members in the following class.
<到達目標/Goals,Aims>
The student's goal will be to acquire the necessary vocabulary,listening and speaking skills for discussing and presenting their opinions on issues in the news today. With each theme the students will be able to reflect upon,discuss and share their points of view. Comparing information and reflecting on personal experiences will develop critical thinking for weighing different sides of the issue. While interacting with other students they will sharpen their skills of debate,practice conversation strategies,broaden their outlook and solidify their opinions on the issues in today’s media.
