<概要/Course Content Summary> This is an intermediate course for students who wish to improve their ability to understand and talk about the lighter news reports typically broadcast at the end of a television newscast. Each lesson is based around a short video clip taken from CBS News, an American television network. The clips explore social and cultural issues in Japan and America, spanning a range of topics from health and lifestyle to social activism and the media itself. The vocabulary exercises and video scripts that accompany each clip will help students cope with the fluent speech used by reporters and interviewees. Discussion of broader issues concerning the media such as representation, gender roles, and globalisation will be integrated into lessons where possible. <到達目標/Goals,Aims> Students will be more confident listening to authentic English news broadcasts. They will better understand news items as their ability to process natural speech and understand content improves.Supplementary tasks will give students the opportunities to discuss in more depth some of the topics covered in the course textbook. <授業計画/Schedule>
Owing to uncertainty concerning Covid 19, the course syllabus has been revised. <成績評価基準/Evaluation Criteria>
