<概要/Course Content Summary> Americans are among the most religious people in the world. A recent survey shows that more than 70% of Americans define themselves as Christian, a larger percentage than anywhere in the world. There are alongside this, believers of all faiths – and in no faith at all – throughout the US. As a result, from their beginnings as part of the British empire until the present time, Americans have placed their religious beliefs at the heart of virtually every major social and moral question. This course examines the broad history of religion in the United States, beginning with contemporary conflicts over religion and public life, and then tracing the roots of those conflicts back into US history. <到達目標/Goals,Aims> This course provides students with a broad overview of the American religious landscape. It introduces students to basic methods of religious history and gives a broad context for understanding American religious life both in the past and the present. <授業計画/Schedule>
