＜概要/Course Content Summary＞

近年の研究は古代イスラエル初期の歴史を不確かで，本質的に後の世代によって創造された伝説であるとしている。その根拠は，古代イスラエルの部族やその先祖たちが古代近東の文書に登場しないことである。しかしその一方で，初期の古代イスラエルとその周辺の文化との関係をもっと広い視野から考察するべきだという学者もいる。　
　
Recent scholarly works declare the beginning of Ancient Israel as historically vague，and basically a legendary creation of later generations. The fact that early members of the Israelite tribes and their ancestors do not appear in texts from the ancient Near East determines according to these scholars，the fact that they are being a later invention. However，other scholars still believe there should be a wider perspective for the relationship between early Ancient Israel and its surrounding cultures. The main attitude of this course is to combine the very early evidence of Israel’s existence with historical texts of later periods of the Israelite monarchy.

＜到達目標/Goals,Aims＞

この講義では，イスラエル王国の後の時代の歴史的文書から，初期イスラエルが存在したことを明らかにするつもりである。また聖書を歴史的視点から読み，メソポタミア文書（主にマリとヌジ）との比較研究を行なう。これらの比較研究により古代近東文化の歴史的継続性が明らかとなり，聖書の記述が必然的に伝説として扱われるべきかという疑問が再提示されるだろう。生は文章解釈を通じてメソポタミアからの形跡をどのように評価するべきかを理解し，またそれについて得た知識をヘブライ語聖書の中で提示されている古代イスラエルの歴史の解釈に役たたせられるようになる。　
In this course the historical perspective of the biblical writings will be pointed out and examined through the comparison of certain biblical texts with Mesopotamian texts mainly Mari and Nuzi. The comparison will point out and emphasize the historical continuation of ANE traditions， and reexamine the question whether the biblical account should necessarily be taken as legendary. Students will gain an understanding of how to evaluate evidence from Mesopotamia through textual analyzing, and how to use its acquired knowledge through research for the interpretation of Israelite History as presented in the Hebrew Bible.
