  DAVID HUGH WHITTAKER

<概要/Course Content Summary>

This class explores major changes in capitalism, industrial organization and entrepreneurship over the past three decades. We begin with the transition to ‘post-Fordism’ or ‘post managerial capitalism’ – changes at the macro level. We then look at changes to hierarchical organizations,the organization of production and employment. These provide the context for exploring the re-emergence and elevation of entrepreneurship. Finally,we look at entrepreneurship itself,and how it is evolving differently in national contexts,contrasting the UK and Japan.

The class will be taught in English (or Japanese if there is a clear preference among students for this). The readings will be in English. Some readings will be required of all students,some will be prepared and presented on a rotation basis.

<到達目標/Goals,Aims>

Underlying this content are several objectives,particularly: to introduce students to a range of perspectives about changing capitalism,industrial organization and entrepreneurship; to relate these to changes within Japan; to increase students’ confidence in accessing such perspectives through English; and to bring the insights gained to the students’ own research projects.
