This session is concerned with the role of employees as stakeholders. Specifically we ask the question of how far the corporate governance system in Britain and America by prioritising shareholder value constrains the ability of managers to pursue cooperative strategies with employees. We will discuss the Saturn case described by Kochan and Rubinstein. We will also discuss the role of employees in Japanese corporate governance.
